The Truth Matters!

Commentary by Martin G. Collins

Truth must be thought through. The Bible compels a person to draw his own conclusions and to do his own thinking, making truth real and fixing it in memory. Yet, it also conceals truth from those too lazy to think or too blinded by prejudice to see. It places the responsibility on the individual, revealing truth to those who desire it and hiding it from those who reject it. The truth matters, and it always surpasses tradition and human reasoning. However, some archaeologists and historians close their minds to avoid admitting that their dating is incorrect, rejecting the evidence that aligns with the biblical record.

A Disagreement With the Truth

God alone possesses truth and we must seek this truth as we would seek precious gems. Pride could be described as disagreement with the truth.

Truth and God's Governance (Part One)

CGG Weekly by David C. Grabbe

In an environment of universal deceit, where satan is the father of lies and deceives the whole world, speaking the truth becomes a revolutionary act akin to rebelling against the powers that be. Governments inspired by satan often persecute or kill those whose truthful words and lives challenge their authority. Jesus Christ, though not a typical revolutionary seeking to overthrow human regimes, spoke truths so radical that He was cruelly put to death for them. During His trial before Pontius Pilate, Jesus declared that He came into the world to bear witness to the truth, stating that everyone who is of the truth hears, understands, and obeys His voice. Pilate's rhetorical response, "What is truth?" reflects a deeper inquiry beyond mere facts, touching on the essence of reality, which is intrinsically linked to God's sovereignty and governance. This reality, the most profound truth, is the Kingdom of God, to which Jesus bore witness, proclaiming a literal Kingdom to be established on earth. Rejecting this truth, as many do, means failing to hear and obey the voice of Jesus Christ, the Spokesman of that divine reality. In contrast, a humble person submits to this reality of God's governance, as exemplified by John the Baptist, who recognized that all authority comes from heaven and willingly accepted his role, trusting in God's sovereign plan.

Truth (Part 2)

Sermon by John W. Ritenbaugh

The rejection of truth is a profound barrier to conversion, as it distinguishes the converted from the unconverted. Those who are of the truth hear the voice of Jesus Christ and respond with humility, while the unconverted resist and suppress it. Mankind often stuffs the truth, ignoring the evident existence of a Creator God, which leads inevitably to idolatry. By rejecting the truth of God's existence, humanity devises false representations of worship, creating lies that cannot reflect the true nature or purpose of the Creator. This suppression of truth results in a natural consequence where man turns inward, worshipping the self as the highest entity when no greater truth is acknowledged. The wrath of God, as described by Paul, is not an expression of anger but the inevitable outcome of cause and effect, where God allows humanity to face the consequences of their choices by letting His laws take their course. Even when confronted with clear evidence, most people refuse to change, continuing in lifestyles or behaviors that defy the truth, whether it pertains to God's truth or evident facts in society. Sin itself is a lie, deceiving individuals into believing it brings happiness, yet it ultimately ruins lives. The rejection of truth stems from a deep-seated unwillingness to pay the price of change, to deny oneself, or to step out of comfort. Human nature, shaped by past experiences and cultural traditions, builds prejudices that resist the new truth of God, often rationalizing away the need for repentance. This powerful impulse to reject truth, even when embodied in Christ Himself, leads to confusion and hostility, as seen in the rejection of both His message and His person. The philosophies and traditions of human cultures, born from corrupted minds or even demonic influences, stand at odds with God's truth. Redemption calls for a complete reevaluation of the aimless conduct and thinking instilled from early life, requiring a continuous acknowledgment of God's truth throughout one's life to move closer to the perfection of Jesus Christ. Failing to embrace this truth leaves nothing of value to carry into the Kingdom of God, as a life not aligned with reality bears no lasting fruit.
