The Audacity to Hope
'Ready Answer' by Mike FordFaith serves as the foundation for what we hope, rooted in the expectation of good rather than mere wishing. The hope of a member of the Body of Christ is in God and His promises, not in the uncertainty of worldly desires or governmental aid. Unlike the modern sense of hope which implies a wish with little certainty, the original Greek word "elpis" and its verb form "elpizo" convey a full expectation of good, often synonymous with faith and trust. In Hebrews 10:23, we are urged to hold fast to this hope without wavering, a possibility only if our hope is grounded in God's unbreakable Word. Hope rests on faith, quickening it and serving as the ground for bold confession. True hope is not based on the audacity to make a request without assurance, but on the faith that God is true and His Word cannot be broken. To hope is to trust, and to trust in God is to have faith in Him, requiring a relationship and belief in what He represents. As Paul states in Romans 8:24-25, we are saved in this hope, eagerly waiting with perseverance for what we do not see, supported by a hope so strong that it carries us through trials. This hope, built on faith, is what separates us from the world, as we come out of sin not by a mere wish, but by the trust and faith God has given us.
