Carl Childs, reflecting on the golden calf incident of the exodus, suggests the apostasy of ancient Israel was caused by their failure to listen to God's angel. The first generation of Israel perished because they failed to listen to God's messenger. Captivity and scattering are the natural consequences of ignoring this dispatch from God. When Christ was sent as God's messenger, His brethren ignored him. The church at Ephesus failed to listen to their angel and lost their first love accordingly. The Spirit of truth living in us (John 14:16) is the messenger sent to us. We need to listen to the angel of God sent to us.
