Description: In this offertory message, John Ritenbaugh reflects that when we give a gift to someone who has everything, we have to carefully assess the appropriateness of the gift. Giving an offering is an aspect of our stewardship, requiring that we put plenty of thought and careful reflection into our offering. David gave lavishly (multiple millions of dollars when compared with today's monetary measure), while the widow offered two mites in her penury. Both offerings were considered generous, but the widow gave more- to the point of hardship (having believing faith that God would provide)- an awesome sacrifice, proportionately greater than all the rest. Sacrifice is the essence-the heart and core- of love. An acceptable offering must be (1) thoughtfully considered, (2) attended with a measure of sacrifice (3) given knowing that God is no respecter of persons, (4) given in faith and (5) must not be given with a grudging spirit.
