Description: Brian Wulf describes an incident in which he accidentally dropped a friend's book (ironically titled "Simplifying Your Life") in the toilet. After employing many stratagems to conceal this embarrassing episode from his friends, he apologizes and replaces the book. Becoming a Christian does not simplify a person's life, but actually creates situations which seem overwhelming and beyond our power to cope. The pulls of the flesh and the culture violently militate against God's Law and the prompts of God's Holy Spirit. Because of society's dubious entertainment, children lose their innocence at earlier and earlier ages.We are called to overcome the siren calls of materialism, alcoholism, and drug addiction, becoming liberated (with the help of God's Spirit) from these addictions in order to (in the role of a priest) help others who are still enslaved by them.
