Description: Mark Baker, reflecting upon the coming Thanksgiving holiday, delves into the historical roots of this tradition from the Plymouth Colonists to George Washington’s official proclamation of Thanksgiving for God’s Providence. Instead of focusing upon significance of the day , this sermonette delves into the necessity of being thankful daily, asking the questions (1) What does it mean to be thankful?- acknowledging God’s bountiful providence (I Timothy 6:6-8), being continually content.(2) Why should be thankful? – Interestingly the Bible has more to say on thankfulness than on the Sabbath, indicating its importance to God ( I Thessalonians 5:18)(3) What should we be thankful for? – We should be thankful for the ability to understand the truth that we will be born into God’s family. (4) How shall we acknowledge our thanksgiving? We need to incorporate thanksgiving within all of our petitions to God (Philippians 4:6). Supplication with thanksgiving will serve as antidotes to depression and anxiety without any unpleasant side effects. Ingratitude is a tool Satan gives us to help destroy God’s family. We should be thankful daily, not just once a year. Thankfulness is the parent of all other virtues. (15 minutes)
