Description: Bryan Wulf points out that Naomi's husband Elimolech (whose name ironically means "My God is King") perhaps typifies the cowardly attitude of the Israelite who wanted to have a king (blending in with all the pagan Gentile cultures around them around them) , rejecting the rulership of Almighty God. As Naomi's sons Mahlon (meaning puny) and Chilion (meaning pining) died, the daughter-in-laws Ruth and Orpha were left with the decision of following Naomi back to God's people or remaining in Moab. The Moabitess Ruth (whose name means helpful friendship) elected to follow her mother-in-law back to her native land, becoming metaphorically grafted into Israel (by marrying Boaz), becoming part of the lineage of our Savior and Elder Brother.
